Winter Wake Up News

Text Box: Mentors Matter had great success with their recent "Winter Wake Up" Fund Rasier with a great turn out, loads of fun with the many Silent Auction items and additionally met their goal of raising $4000.000.  Mentors, parents and mentees touched those who attended the event with some very touching, heartfelt testimonials of what a difference mentoring and the Mentors Matter program has made in their lives.

Text Box: One teen who spoke for the evening's event, related how she knew she was heading in the wrong direction in her life and that when she met her mentee, Terry Burkey, she has been grateful for the love, guidance and positive reinforcement Terry has been.  Terry had the crowd laughing as she stated, "when Laura (MM Director) approached me about being a mentor I laughed and thought she was crazy!  I had already raised seven children, what did I want to do with a teen age girl, yet it has been such a blessing in my life and I am so thankful for the friendship my mentee, Mary and I have."

Text Box: Parent Patti Pate came to tears in front of everyone stating how much her daughter's mentor, Ilene Franklin has made a difference not only in her daughter's life, yet also has touched the entire family.

Text Box: Ryan struggled in school, was below his grade level in several areas and after being paired with his mentor, David Knight, he has progressed in school immensely.

Text Box: His teachers have made mention of Ryan's progress, his family is ecstatic and Ryan is very proud of his accomplishment.  David has set up an electronic encyclopedia to use and made available a laptop for Ryan's personal use.  Ryan has spent countless hours in the encyclopedia, time with David on word pronunciation and is diligent in doing his homework.

Text Box: Ryan & David also do Community Outreach projects together such as Operation Warm and also spent time just talking and interacting.
